Circular Knickers tackles this sustainability issue through designing knickers to be returned at end of life, to be recycled into new knickers. While it starts at a high price point, as it grows in popularity the costs will fall. This will help to end the wasteful current model of knicker use.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--FILE02 IMG--><\/p>\n<div class=\"mediafileviewer mfvimages\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading =\"lazy\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.schoolofdesignleeds.com\/ds25\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Skye-Michaelis-02.jpg\" width=\"100%\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 1416px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 1416\/855;\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"mfv-caption\"><strong>SECOND SHIFT<\/strong>: This report tackles three problems: the difficulties small businesses face with traceability and transparency, the textile waste produced by the fashion industry, and the declining bee population. These challenges are addressed through the production of a reversible and timeless coat. The primary issue tackled in this report is the difficulty small businesses have in tracking their supply chains, as they simply do not have the finances or time to do so. This leaves them at risk of social and environmental exploitation within their supply chains. SECOND SHIFT coats are designed for a prolonged use phase. They are built to last for years and to withstand constantly shifting fashion trends. The reversibility, with one neutral and one statement side, aims to reduce the need to purchase an additional, rarely worn occasion jacket. The cut is unisex, simple, tailored, and classy to meet consumer demand. Sustainable care during the use phase will be communicated to the consumer through orange care labels, designed to be kept on rather than cut off. This also helps with sorting at end of life.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><script>\ndocument.getElementById(\"withme\").innerHTML = document.getElementById(\"studentpostname\").innerHTML;\ndocument.addEventListener(\"scroll\", function(){\nvar sitedescription = document.querySelector(\".site-description\");\nvar studenttitle = document.getElementById(\"studentpostname\");\nif(window.pageYOffset > 100){\nsitedescription.classList.add(\"highlightstudentname\");\nsitedescription.innerHTML = studenttitle.innerHTML;\n}\nif(window.pageYOffset < 100){\nsitedescription.classList.remove(\"highlightstudentname\");\nsitedescription.innerHTML = \"School of Design, University of Leeds\";\n}\n});\n\/*Heart a submission\nlet theheart = document.getElementById(\"heartsvg\"); \/\/ assign the SVG class to a variable called theheart\nlet lsheart = localStorage.getItem(\"onheart\"); \/\/ access a key called onheart in LS, and assign it to a variable called lsheart\nlet heartmsg = document.getElementById(\"heartmessage\");\nconst enableheart = () => { \/\/ create a function to colour in the SVG when the SVG is clicked\ntheheart.classList.add(\"activeheart\"); \/\/ tell the function to add a class to the SVG that will add colour\nheartmsg.innerHTML = \"You liked this submission\";\nheartmsg.classList.add(\"addpinkcolor\");\nlocalStorage.setItem(\"onheart\", \"enabled\"); \/\/ activate LS with the key and a value, hereby called enabled\n};\nconst disableheart = () => { \/\/ create a function to remove colour from the SVG when the SVG is clicked\ntheheart.classList.remove(\"activeheart\"); \/\/ tell the function to remove the class from the SVG that added colour\nheartmsg.innerHTML = \"Like this submission\";\nheartmsg.classList.remove(\"addpinkcolor\");\nlocalStorage.setItem(\"onheart\", \"disabled\"); \/\/ activate LS with the same key but a new value, hereby called disabled\n};\nif(lsheart === \"enabled\"){ \/\/ if the LS key has a value of enabled then...\nenableheart(); \/\/ ...run the enableheart function, which adds the class to the SVG\n}\ntheheart.addEventListener(\"click\", function(){ \/\/ when the SVG is clicked...\nlsheart = localStorage.getItem(\"onheart\"); \/\/ ...I think the LS needs to run on itself\nif(lsheart === \"enabled\"){ \/\/ if the LS key has a value of enabled...\ndisableheart(); \/\/ ...run the function that changes the LS value to disabled\n} else { \/\/ otherwise...\nenableheart(); \/\/ ...run the function that changes the LS value to enabled\n}\n});\n*\/\n<\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Degree Show 2025 Skye Michaelis BA Sustainable Fashion Hi, I\u2019m Skye Michaelis, a final-year BA Sustainable Fashion student. handshakeConnect with Circular Knickers: The project aims to redesign the knicker product and production process for sustainability. 100% of underwear is thrown in the bin at the end of life, destined for landfill.
