Hey I’m Tara! Over the past three years at university, I’ve developed a deep passion for illustration, which I’ve channelled into creating a meaningful and inclusive children’s book. Inspired by my own experience with Dyspraxia; a neurological condition that affects coordination and movement, I’ve written a story to raise awareness whilst also supporting word learning and language development in young readers.

The book takes you on a journey with ‘Murray the Meerkat’, who demonstrates the challenges and positive attributes of living with Dyspraxia. Using insights from psychological research, I’ve developed the narrative and characters to help children develop empathy and knowledge.

Interestingly, the relationship between a parent and child during reading times is vital for emotional bonding and cognitive growth. However, according to the NSPCC (2024), 107,00 children were living in care in the UK between 2022-2023. To help bridge this gap and ensure all children can access the same developmental benefits, I’ve included a QR code in the book that links to an audiobook version, ensuring that every child can be equally engaged within the story, regardless of personal circumstances.

Take a seat in my children’s library and discover Murray’s inspiring journey. My goal is to promote a more inclusive society, starting with the youngest minds, through this illustrative story.
