BA Fashion Design
As an inquisitive person with an enthusiastic approach to design I enjoy developing my skills and understanding to achieve more successful design outcomes. On my placement year I was able to further develop my skills and knowledge whilst gaining experience in Menswear design. My interests also include sustainable fashion and environmentally considerate design practices.

This project aims to bring attention to the excess of waste produced during design processes (such as material testing and sampling) in the fashion industry. At disposal the majority of this textile waste is largely unused and as a result has not reached its end-of-life stage. This frivolous production of waste textiles is not the consumers responsibility but the designers. Therefore, designers should strive to minimise the production of this waste and utilise the scrap material.

As a child my favourite book was ‘I WANT TO BE A COWGIRL’ by Jeanne Willis. A book rooted in themes of passion and perseverance following a girls dreams to escape the conventionality of her big city life and become a cowgirl instead. This kidswear collection focuses on bright colours and bold patterns inspired by childlike wonder, influenced by the book ‘I WANT TO BE A COWGIRL’.

During my menswear placement at Barbour I found excitement in my experiences contributing towards a variety of collaboration projects. This womenswear collection is fed by that excitement. With a focus towards Barbour’s heritage, and BODE’s gentle femininity, this collection takes inspiration from the great British countryside to create designs which are true to both brands.
