‘Between Two Places’ is a work that merges maps and shared street names from Hong Kong and Leeds to examine how migration reshapes the meaning of home. It reflects on the artist’s memory, identity and sense of belonging, revealing how displaced individuals carry fragments of places with them, forming emotional landscapes where multiple homes coexist across time and distance..

At the centre of the work is a collaged map combining the outlines of Hong Kong and Leeds. Each illustration is pinned to its corresponding street on the map using red thread, referencing both investigative mapping and the East Asian legend of the red thread of fate.

Around the map are six illustrated hybrid streetscapes blending features from both cities. These scenes show how memories from separate places can coexist and form imagined spaces of belonging.

The word “HOMELAND” and “家” appears at its core, formed from real streets shared by both cities, reflecting Hong Kong’s colonial past. These streets shift from navigational tools to symbolic strokes, expressing memory and political tension.
