Alice Spencer Russell
BA Art and Design
Since 2022, I have been studying Art and Design at Leeds, including a year of international studies in Marseille, an experience that heavily influenced my practice. My work explores pattern design as a vehicle for memory and abstraction, driven by a curiosity about light and the way it can transform a pattern and the atmosphere around it.
Hanging Lampshade, Welded Metal Frame, Dorado fabric and Muslin cloth with digital print 83 x 45cm This hanging lampshade brings together photographic memories of Marseille, translated into pattern and printed onto fabric. When illuminated, the light filters through the layers, shifting the pattern and transforming the atmosphere of the space around, evoking a sense of reflection. This is applied to all light forms made across the project.
