BA Graphic and Communication Design

Hi I’m Lottie, a graphic designer from Hertfordshire. Over the duration of my course I have developed a strong interest in hands-on creative practice to produce innovative and engaging visual outcomes. The following works demonstrate my passions in image making, advertising and mixed media collage.

Each image of this series reinterprets a poem by Victorian writer Christina Rossetti. This work acts as a translation of poetry into vivid visual form, carefully constructed upon a scanner to expand image making beyond the camera. Featured objects include hair, flowers, jewellery, sand and various food items, representative of Rossetti’s most earnest themes – religion, grief, depression and female sexuality.

The ‘Greatness Starts With a Pencil’ campaign promotes the pencil as the origin of great ideas. This series of digital posters draws on the architecture of London landmarks, building a direct visual and emotional connection between the pencil drawing and the aligning building in the same view. Displayed on illuminated bus stops and digital billboards across the city, the blueprint-style visuals contrast London’s gloomy urban environment. The campaign adopts a formal yet aspirational tone, using simple layouts to align the pencil with more traditional artistry and craftsmanship.

Paper weaving has been a long-standing creative interest of mine, reflecting my appreciation for tactile processes within an increasingly digital design industry. Using found and discarded materials such as newspapers, magazines, flyers, plastic bags, and cans, I combine pattern and imagery to create visually engaging mixed-media compositions.
