Let’s Face It! A Zine for Mental Wellbeing In Singapore, we don’t talk about our mental health. We’re taught to keep it to ourselves, in favour of our collectivist society. The zine targets secondary school students (age 13-17), and works together with systemic change to destigmatise mental health conditions in Singapore, by making sure our youth are equipped with the ability to acknowledge and manage their own emotional wellbeing, stopping the cycle of poor mental health in the country.
Palimpsest is a time capsule, eternalising layers of past gigs, protests and political movements through the residue that posters leaves behind. Making permanent the violence in torn paper and old glue, layers of memories and time forgotten as we reuse advertising spaces again and again and again. The book is printed on newsprint and left unbound to further emphasise the fragility and impermanent nature of the subject matter. The images were manipulated to emphasise contrast, printed imperfectly on thin paper. Put together, these images make up new compositions, creating more art from art that once was. As William Blake once wrote, “Eternity is in love with the productions of time.” With the short life span of flyers and posters, they find new purpose in the layers of residue left behind, reflecting the ever-growing beauty of passing time.
