BA Sustainable Fashion

As a BA Sustainable Fashion final-year student, I have gained an understanding of how complex the fashion system really is. My work focuses on designing tools to address key issues across the fashion supply chain, specifically managing textile waste and enabling circular design strategies.

Many UK small-to-medium sized fashion companies (SMEs) lack the resources to meet emerging sustainability regulations such as Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), where producers are deemed responsible for managing their textile waste at the end of its useful life. Relay is a B2B compliance platform helping UK fashion SMEs adopt circular end-of-life practices through simplified guidance, actionable plans, and connections to UK-based reuse, repair, and recycling partners.

Focusing upstream, the FibreCycle Matrix is an AI-assisted circular garment design tool developed to support UK fashion SMEs in transitioning away from linear production practices. The platform translates information on a desired garment into tailored circular design recommendations based on three core strategies: mono-material design, design for disassembly and design for durability. By integrating circular practices into the earliest stages of garment development, FibreCycle aims to reduce material consumption, improve end-of-life processing and support compliance with upcoming sustainability legislation.
