My studio practice reflects ritualistic processes and alternative religion through the perspective of a feminist lens. Taking inspiration from the natural landscape and the female body, my studio practice consists of protection symbols, clothing and idols used both in ritualistic practice and to protect oneself, reflecting both the adversity subjected to and the protection symbols that women have relied for thousands of years.
Protection ritualistic robe covering the body, ready for ritualistic practice, with sash layered with protection symbols tied around the waist. The robe defends the wearer by creating an abstract space around the body, creating an area of anonymity in which the wearer feels safe.
Protection robe laid flat against the grass on Cleeve Hill, displaying the narrative figures and protective symbols sewn onto the back.
Protection idols/weapons, presented through the guise of protection for women, destroyed. Ultimately displaying the final rejection of religion through alternative ritual.
